Albany New York Nepalese Society (ANNS) is pleased to announce the publication of fourth biennial magazine “Albany Chautari”. The publication will be mainly focused and dedicated in capturing Nepalese community programs, membership updates, social activities, articles, poems, pictorial contents and other editorials.
We would like to encourage everyone for their involvement and contribution in sending necessary materials, articles, poems, pictorial contents, kid’s activity, and other editorials along with any advertisement and announcement that you may be interested in publishing.
Guidelines for submissions:
Deadline for submissions: May 31st 2024

All contents needs to be in .doc format (Nepali or English) no more than 2 pages with auto size author photo
Please encourage our kids to actively grab this opportunity to explore and develop their skills.

Dear community members,
First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for your continued support to Albany New York Nepalese Society (ANNS) and its activities and for entrusting a very dynamic team of highly motivated and active people as board members of the community. It is an incredible honor and privilege to be ANNS president for the years 2023-2025. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the board members of the executive committee for getting elected for the next two years to continue ANNS programs and activities effectively and efficiently.
ANNS has been established as a non-profit organization to unite people of Nepalese origin, those interested in Nepalese culture residing in the capital region, to promote and preserve Nepalese culture and traditions, to establish and foster cordial relations with other local, national and international organizations and many more. Over the past eight years we have been very successful in achieving many of our goals and still more need to be done to promote Nepali culture, foster the relationships with the community and its members and to educate our children and youth to Nepali culture and traditions and to pass them down to our youngsters. ANNS has been a family away from the family and it will continue running programs/activities to strengthen ties and to spread help and kindness among the community members. As unity is extremely powerful than individuality I highly encourage Nepalese people living in the capital region to be united in ANNS and I am very confident that we will achieve far more together than individually. I thank previous presidents, officers and members for their contribution to the welfare of the society and its members. Once again, I would like to thank you all for your continued support and your active participation which I believe will continue and grow in coming years. I anticipate active engagement and participation of community members to ANNS activities and programs which will help to boost up the organization to the next level in the years to come.

As all of us are coping with the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic, we hope everyone is staying safe and following general health guidelines. We can’t stress enough that the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. So, please practice recommended measures including keeping a safe distance “Social Distancing” while interacting with others amongst other things to protect you and your family’s health in this fragile situation.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global health crisis and also impacted our lives in upstate New York. As a Nepalese society working for the welfare of Nepali community living in upstate New York, ANNS is highly committed in providing necessary support to all Nepalese living in and around Albany.

ANNS has separated a fund of $5000 to help COVID-19 affected families. This fund is allocated by the ANNS Board to help with the much-needed assistance for the affected families.
This will include;
- Up to $300 worth of groceries and other essential items to the COVID-19 affected ANNS members’ family and $100 worth items to non-members’ families.
- ANNS has also mobilized a COVID-19 Swat team in arranging the necessary purchase and delivery of essential items to the quarantined family.

We are deeply saddened to inform our members of the sudden loss of ANNS Advisor Lokendra Bam’s beloved mother ‘Durga Devi Bam’. Today on the 13th day, Let’s pray for the strength and courage of bereaved family members to bear this immense loss and for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Our Motto: “Preserve our language and culture and transfer it to our kids”
We are very excited to inform those who have enrolled their children in the Nepali language class that, starting this year, we have a confirmed designated venue. In order to avoid the hassle of having to run between the Guilderland and Clifton Park libraries, the society has chosen one location to run the class this year.
The new venue along with the other details for the Nepali language class will be as follows:
Venue: Chinese Community Center, 11 Avis Dr., Latham, NY 12110.
Date: Every Tuesday from 19th June, 2018 through September 4th, 2018 (Calendar details will be sent to the parents)
Time: 7-8 pm.
Total Class: 12
Amount to be paid to Chinese Community Center: $25/class (with 50% discount), total $300.00
We kindly request that all parents who have enrolled their children deposit the fee ($50/child) by May 31, 2018 to one of the following members:

Times Union – Raising funds for Nepal quake victims
COLONIE — A brunch to raise money to benefit those affected by the recent Nepal earthquake was held Sunday at the Hindu Temple Cultural Center in Loudonville. The fundraiser was held by the Hindu Temple Society and the Nepalese community. Money raised will be delivered directly to those in need in Nepal by a member of the society, who will travel there in early July. The society will continue to accept donations through the middle of June.

Mohan Thapa, president of South Col Engineering, emigrated from Nepal and has family living there amid the devastation of the April 25 earthquake.

The Election Committee was named at the July 5, 2015 meeting of the ANNS Board of Directors and community. The Election Committee, in agreement with the Bylaws, conducted the election process for the four executive committee positions, the five executive committee general officers, and the four members of the board of directors. No member of the Election Committee was a candidate for ANNS office.
